CRVO (central retinal vein occlusion)

CRVO (central retinal vein occlusion)

This is a condition that most often affects people over 60 years old, and can lead to loss of vision.
Macular edema is the most common complication, and there is also the appearance of new vessels that can lead to vitreous hemorrhage or glaucoma.

The patient complains of a rapid unilateral decrease in visual acuity, the eye is white and painless.
At the fundus, the ophthalmologist can see the distended and tortuous veins that may be associated with a retinal hemorrhage, at the angiography we see a diffusion of the dye in the intraretinal lodges.

Management is based on regular monitoring, Argon laser photocoagulation can treat retinal ischemic areas.
Intravitreal injection of corticosteroids or ranibizumab in the case of central vein occlusion improves the visual prognosis, in the case of peripheral vein occlusion the benefit has not yet been proven.
