In most cases, vision is significantly improved after cataract surgery.
However, it is common for the patient to still need slightly thick lenses to correct their distance vision and it is rare to avoid wearing glasses for near vision. Some visual defects such as astigmatism cannot be corrected by glasses in the patient. Myopia and hyperopia can still be improved even after cataract surgery. In case of sensitivity to light, tinted lenses can be worn for small corrections.
Regarding presbyopia, in the case of a non-accommodative implant, near vision lenses will be required.
Also note that a switch between the two eyes is often proposed:
The first eye is adjusted to distance vision and the second adjusted to facilitate near vision, which will make it possible to be less dependent on glasses in all circumstances.
Currently, the problem of choosing a multifocal implant, i.e. one that will also compensate for presbyopia, is increasingly arising, which is relatively new because a few years ago it was necessary to choose between clear distance vision OR clear near vision.
