{"id":217,"date":"2013-07-15T11:03:37","date_gmt":"2013-07-15T10:03:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vision-laser.fr\/?page_id=217"},"modified":"2025-05-26T10:12:51","modified_gmt":"2025-05-26T09:12:51","slug":"procedure-pour-etre-opere","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.vision-laser.fr\/en\/chirurgie-refractive\/procedure-pour-etre-opere\/","title":{"rendered":"Surgery procedure"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<h2>Indications<\/h2>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">The goal of the surgery is to allow patients with <strong><a title=\"Les d\u00e9fauts visuels\" href=\"http:\/\/www.vision-laser.fr\/en\/les-defauts-visuels\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">myopia<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vision-laser.fr\/en\/les-defauts-visuels\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">hyperopia<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vision-laser.fr\/en\/les-defauts-visuels\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">astigmatism<\/a><\/strong>, or <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vision-laser.fr\/en\/les-defauts-visuels\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">presbyopia<\/a><\/strong> to do without correction \u2013 glasses or <a title=\"Lentilles de contact\" href=\"http:\/\/www.vision-laser.fr\/en\/lentilles-de-contact\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">contact lenses<\/a> \u2013 permanently.<\/p>\n<p>The LASIK procedure is indicated in the following cases:<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><strong>\u2013 Myopia less than 12 diopters <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">*<\/span><br>\n\u2013 Hyperopia less than 6 diopters <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">*<\/span><br>\n\u2013 Astigmatism less than 6 diopters <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">*<\/span><br>\n\u2013 Myopia or refractive abnormality must be stabilized<br>\n\u2013 Age over 20 years.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">The exact choice of the LASIK procedure is up to the surgeon, based on your case.<br>\n<span style=\"color: #ff6600\">*<\/span>: Please note that this refers to diopters, not tenths of visual acuity.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is the difference between visual acuity in tenths and correction in diopters?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Visual acuity<\/strong> is measured without correction. With correction, it is expressed in <strong>tenths<\/strong> or other international units.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">The <strong>visual correction<\/strong> is expressed in <strong>diopters<\/strong>, which is the number of diopters needed to best correct your vision and thus give you your best acuity: usually 10\/10, sometimes less, rarely more.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>The pre-operative exam called \"eligibility\" exam.<\/h2>\n<p>Pre-operative exams may vary from one surgeon to another.<\/p>\n<p>In general, the procedure followed by the majority of specialists is...<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>A complete preoperative exam, which includes the precise measurement of visual acuity as well as the evaluation of the dioptric correction to be made under cycloplegia (eye drops that dilate the pupil and temporarily block accommodation, which could otherwise distort this evaluation).<\/li>\n<li>Examination with a slit lamp, measurement of intraocular pressure, and fundus examination (FO).<\/li>\n<li>Corneal topography associated with pachymetry (measurement of corneal thickness \u2013 painless examinations).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">This consultation lasts approximately 1 hour and ensures eligibility for LASIK.<br>\nPlease come without contact lenses for 48 hours, bringing your glasses and contact lens prescriptions.<br>\nAt the end of the consultation, the patient will receive an estimate for their insurance, an informational brochure, and usage recommendations.<\/p>\n<p>The cost of a preoperative consultation, as most practitioners charge, is \u20ac100. This is not reimbursed by Social Security, but may be reimbursed by mutual insurance companies depending on the terms of your contract. They include surgical fees, the operating room fee to be paid directly at the clinic (by separate check), post-operative monitoring for 3 months, and touch-ups for 6 months.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Payment is due on the day of surgery.\nIf necessary, payment options can be arranged with the center's administrative management and with your surgery's approval.<\/p>\n<h2>Reimbursement of refractive surgery by mutual insurance companies:<\/h2>\n<p>Given the success of these refractive surgery procedures, most health insurance companies now offer a sometimes significant co-payment. The reimbursement amount per eye varies based on numerous criteria. It also varies greatly depending on each health insurance company, ranging from just a few euros to several hundred euros for others.
