A <\/span>chalazion<\/strong> is a small tumor of the <\/span>upper or lower eyelid<\/strong> of inflammatory origin, due to the obstruction of a palpebral gland, the Meibomian gland. It can affect children or adults at any age.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is sometimes more common in diabetic<\/strong> patients, but some non-diabetic people can have them repeatedly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Treatment consists of the rapid application of eye drops<\/strong> and antibiotic and anti-inflammatory ointments<\/strong> but sometimes surgical treatment<\/strong> is necessary (simple incision inside the eyelid after local anesthesia).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The chalazion is benign but its recurring nature can become exasperating for the patient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is distinguished from a stye<\/strong> which corresponds to the infection<\/strong> of the hair follicle of an eyelash, which is generally closer to the outer edge of the eyelid, often with a small white head that never requires an incision but also heals with ointments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le traitement d\u2019un chalazion repose sur des compresses chaudes, une bonne hygi\u00e8ne, et parfois un traitement m\u00e9dical prescrit par un professionnel de sant\u00e9.
